The RAFT Framework for Ethical AI Use
Gather credible sources. Write down what you know, what you think, and what remains unclear before AI enters the process.
Ask AI for questions, gaps, counterarguments, feedback, or search directions. Ask for possibilities—not a finished submission.
Find the original trustworthy source. Confirm the exact claim, quotation, date, calculation, and context. Remove what you cannot verify.
Close the AI output and build the final product from verified notes, course knowledge, your reasoning, and your voice.
“Here is what I understand. Ask me questions that reveal gaps. Do not give me the answer yet.”
“Identify two counterarguments and suggest search terms I can use to research each one.”
“Point out weak reasoning in this draft, but do not rewrite it.”
Course, assignment, and institutional policies always take priority. If expectations are unclear, ask before using AI.
